Responsibilities
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Control System Technologist to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Control System Technologist to collaborate in the design, assembling, testing, maintaining, and operating of control systems used on high stake weapons physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (Pulse) Complex and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine work of moderate complexity using technical skills with specific direction and oversight.
Assist in the fabrication of control system panels and related hardware.
Wire instruments and control panels.
Assist in instrumentation checks and calibrations.
Assist with control system acceptance tests.
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of control systems and related hardware.
Read and assist in the development of system schematics, wiring diagrams, and other related drawings.
Perform and support the development, validation and updating of installation, operations and testing procedures, protocols, and checklists.
Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 3 years' progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 5 years' progressive related experience.
Familiarity or demonstrated aptitude with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting.
Mechanical skills desired, but not required.
Knowledge of instrumentation & control, electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical components.
Hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
Ability to work well with others, as they will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with planning/organizing skills and initiative and be capable of employing independent judgment and knowledge to ensure that requirements are completed efficiently and on time.
Experience using standard office software products.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team.
Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
Able to manage working at multiple sites - the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada, the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada), underground environment, and travel as needed.
Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday - Thursday (subject to change).
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707 14&rgn=div8) , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Hourly salary range for this position is:$28.58 - $42.87.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
