Your Opportunity
Under the general supervision of an Environmental Compliance Program Manager or Environmental Compliance Specialist, the Junior Environmental Scientist will collaborate on and provide support for environmental compliance projects. The successful candidate will participate in a wide variety of projects for both government and commercial clients. Typical project activities may include conducting environmental compliance audits, collecting data and assisting in development of environmental management plans or environmental planning documents, providing environmental site inspections, and collecting environmental monitoring samples. Must possess excellent communication skills, professional writing skills, and the ability to multi-task between several projects and priorities at one time. It is anticipated the Junior Environmental Scientist will travel at least 25% of the time.
Your Key Responsibilities
Assist in conducting environmental compliance audits and assessments for both government and commercial clients.
Assist in the collection and compilation of data, and preparation of reports and/or plans under the supervision of senior staff.
Collect environmental monitoring samples or conduct site inspections under the supervision of senior staff.
Assist project managers with project work, including but not limited to site inspections and audits, site characterization work, biological studies, environmental planning documents, and due diligence site visits and reports.
Obtain professional licenses and certifications as required to perform the work. Stantec will pay for necessary training to obtain or maintain professional licenses and certifications.
Prepare and implement Health and Safety Plans for site visits.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with both clients and project team members
Strong technical writing skills
Willingness to learn new skills and conduct a wide variety of activities related to environmental consulting work
Ability to manage work from multiple projects and responsibilities concurrently and meet strict project deadlines
Ability to travel locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally as required for project needs
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, as well as a pre-employment physical and drug screen
The position necessitates physically being present at the company's designated office location during regular business hours
Education and Experience
BA or BS Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or related field
Minimum 1 years of experience
