THE OPPORTUNITY:
The School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Washington State University at its Tri-Cities campus in Richland, WA, invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position in the broad area of Cybersecurity at the Assistant Professor level.
Washington State University (WSU) has established a new research and education program to meet the burgeoning demand for computer scientists with expertise in cybersecurity. This initiative is supported by $2 million in Washington state funding. SEAS particularly seeks applicants whose research and teaching expertise encompass strategic cybersecurity areas, including but not limited to: systems/application security, privacy-preserving computing, applied cryptography, formal methods for security, security of machine learning systems, machine learning for security, hardware security, loT and cyber-physical systems security, differential privacy and applied cryptography.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor graduate students, develop/maintain an externally funded research program, contribute to professional and university service, and participate broadly in the evolution of the school's computer science and cybersecurity curricula.
The new faculty will have numerous collaboration opportunities with several large initiatives within the WSU system, including but not limited to the http://natlab.wsu.edu/grid/(AGI), DOD-funded https://cyser.wsu.edu/ (CySER), and http://agaid.org/wsu-to-lead/. Additionally, the new faculty will have an opportunity to collaborate with overseas colleagues at our partner universities and engineering professors in SEAS and at other WSU campuses.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING & APPLIED SCIENCES:
http://tricities.wsu.edu/engineering/is an integral unit within the university's http://vcea.wsu.edu/. Among WSU's newest academic units, SEAS offers degree programs in computer science, cybersecurity, and civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering at the Baccalaureate, Master's, and Doctoral levels, encouraging interdisciplinary initiatives. All the undergraduate programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The School currently has 344 students and expects continued enrollment increases. SEAS produces profession-ready graduates by educating them through project-based experiential learning. Students participate in laboratory experiences, develop industry-sponsored projects, complete paid internships, and participate in research with their professors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct research in the area of cybersecurity and develop a nationally and internationally recognized externally funded research program that supports graduate students
Publish high-impact technical articles in top-tier journals and conference proceedings
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in cybersecurity and other relevant computer science courses, and develop new courses as appropriate
Advise and mentor undergraduate, MS, and PhD students
Participate in service to the department, college and/or university through committee work, recruitment, and interaction with industry
Advance the college's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism among its faculty, staff, and students through research, teaching, and community outreach with relevant programs, goals, and activities
