Overview
The Geospatial Science and Technology (GST) program in the Technology practice area of RTI International's Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences (SSES) Unit is collecting resumes for experienced Geospatial Analysts for an upcoming project. The Geospatial Analyst will perform GIS functions including overlay analysis, data import/export, development of geospatial databases, conversion of GIS data among various formats, develop a sequence of GIS techniques to complete moderately complex GIS analyses and modify existing or create new programs using Python or similar. RTI anticipates filling two (2) positions (full time and/or part time) in each of the defined regions. Candidates may work remotely from a coastal community anywhere in the defined region in the United States. These regions are: the Great Lakes, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Caribbean, Gulf, West, and Pacific Islands.
Responsibilities
Compiles, processes, and analyzes data of varying scales and sources, both raster and vector based, in order to produce derived products, maps, statistics, and other information.
Works independently to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables.
Responsible for major tasks on complex projects or processes within a technical area.
May be responsible for coaching and reviewing the work of lower level technical staff.
Advises on the development of solutions that require collaboration with internal and external experts and deep analyses and understanding of impact on end-product/solution.
Provides hands-on technical assistance to partners and supports facilitation of partner meetings. Requires expert understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of technical domain and has broad understanding of other related specialty areas.
Provides frequent feedback to supervisor or task leader as tasks are completed. Reviews and proofs own work for accuracy and completeness.
Follows all applicable guidelines for QA/QC.
Maintains files to document work performed, including calculations, GIS procedures and tools, spreadsheets, memoranda, references, reviewer comments, etc.
Ensures that all client deliverables undergo appropriate levels of QA/QC and technical and editorial review.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience analyzing geographic information about the earth's coasts, oceans, and Great Lakes or equivalent. Equivalent education/experience is a Bachelor's degree and 6 years.
Experience providing technical and analytical assistance to address a variety of climate resilience issues
Demonstrated technical, operational, and project management skills.
Must be able to work from a coastal community anywhere in the defined Region.
To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.
