Job Title Financial Aid Analyst

General Job Description
This is a professional position responsible for performing timely, accurate, and complex reconciliations of federal, state, and institutional funds, including loans, grants, academic and athletic scholarships. Responsible for data analysis, return of Title IV calculations, and reporting accurate revenue, expenses, and projections. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director of Financial Aid.
Essential Job Functions
Reconciles accounts such as federal/state grants, federal/state loans, federal work-study, and university scholarships.
Monitors the daily operations of assigned revenue and expense accounts for all state and federal aid programs, including scholarship accounts. Assists in regular data reviews. Verifies, validates, and corrects data as needed.
Processes federally mandated return of Title IV calculations daily.
Monitors and coordinates the processing, payments, and reconciliation of all federal and state work-study.
Coordinates with other university departments to resolve account issues discovered during the reconciliation process.
Interprets and explains university policies and procedures related to financial aid and ensures university compliance with applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Identifies and incorporates continuous changes in federal and/or state policies and procedures, ensuring university and departmental compliance.
Prepares, analyzes, and submits various special, quarterly, monthly, and ad hoc reports.
Counsels students and parents concerning financial aid programs, including but not limited to aid availability, the application process, repayment options, student loan debt, and the rights and responsibilities associated with federal, state, and university aid.
Accepts and reviews financial aid verification forms, state aid applications, and related documents for completeness and accuracy.
Processes financial aid requests, determines student eligibility, and verifies, packages, and adjusts awards.
Communicates with students concerning identified issues.

Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions.

Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.

Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
Physical Demands
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field is required. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Required Experience and Training
Two years of related experience is required. Experience in accounting/bookkeeping, financial aid or data analysis is required. Additional education may substitute for experience on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Preferred Qualifications
Current Certified Public Accountant ( CPA ) license is preferred. Customer service experience is preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility
This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
