The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY :
Provides advanced professional and supervisory skills in the management of pharmacy operations and procedures of an assigned area.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Performs all pharmaceutical care and drug distribution duties of a clinical staff pharmacist.
Maintains the operational integrity of an assigned departmental area.
Serves as an expert, technical resource, and/or point person of an assigned area.
Leads, manages, and develops a team dedicated to supporting an assigned area of responsibility.
Manages, supervises, orients, trains, and evaluates staff, pharmacy learners, and supportive personnel.
Holds staff accountable and identifies and deals with personnel issues in a proactive and timely manner, with appropriate follow-up to improve performance.
Develops and maintains departmental operational policies and procedures including ongoing quality assurance standards and measures.
Prepares quality reports and investigates customer complaints for assigned area.
Reviews quality assurance and quality control data for assigned area and takes corrective action as needed by analyzing complex data and identifying root causes. Presents and articulates conclusions and recommendations to the pharmacy leadership team.
Identifies, documents, and follows-up on problems related to inter and intra departmental operations and patient safety.
Provides in-service education directed toward the training and development of departmental staff and other health care professionals.
Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of qualified staff members.
Serves as the preceptor and/or advisor for pharmacy learners.
Works with projects to a timely resolution and completes assignments according to general agreed upon deadlines.
Participates in quality assurance programs in the Department of Pharmacy.
Maintains a safe, neat, clean, and organized work area.
Operates within regulations, policies, and procedures to minimize drug diversion and to maintain compliance within pharmacy operations, 340B program, medication quality assurance, security, and disposal of hazardous waste medications.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
Performs related duties as required.

Specific vision abilities are required including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; sit; stoop; kneel; crouch; and stand.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

EQUIPMENT :
Standard pharmaceutical equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Standard pharmacy environment.
May be required to work weekends and shift rotations.
May be required to work after hours and extended shifts during emergencies.
May be required to work on-call.
May require travel to correctional facilities and other office locations.
May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients or others.
Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
Licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas or eligible to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas. Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas at the time of hire.
Four (4) years of experience.
Obtain Immunization Certification within six (6) months of hire.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :
Seven (7) years of related experience.
PGY1 or PGY2 Pharmacy Residency.
Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
