Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Space Suit Sewing Technician to join our team in Houston. This position is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and repair of soft-goods components and assemblies used in space suit production. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with industrial sewing machines, a strong understanding of soft-goods fabrication, and the ability to interpret and execute precise fabrication and assembly instructions.
Key Responsibilities
Operate various industrial sewing machines, including Straight Stitch (single and double needle), Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, and 3-Thread Rolled Hem Serger.
Perform hand and machine sewing to join, reinforce, or decorate materials in line with design specifications.
Cut materials to specifications or trim excess from finished products using scissors, blades, or electric knives.
Inspect and measure completed articles to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
Prepare materials for sewing by folding, aligning, and securing them in place.
Troubleshoot machine issues, such as stitching defects, thread breaks, or malfunctions.
Adjust sewing machines and attachments (e.g., needles, guides) according to specifications.
Load materials and threads, position and guide them through the machine for precise sewing.
Mark and position patterns on materials, monitor production processes, and record processed materials in logs.
Conduct equipment maintenance, including needle replacement and cleaning/oiling of sewing machines.
Ensure product quality and accuracy following fabrication instructions or drawings.
Use specialized automatic or semi-automatic sewing equipment as needed.
Required Qualifications
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required due to the sensitive nature of the work.
Language: Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of related work experience in a similar role.
Skills: Proficiency with industrial sewing machines, ability to interpret technical drawings and fabrication patterns, and knowledge of basic math and English measurements.
Availability: Willingness to work all production shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or weekends) as needed.
Communication: Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with sewing tasks related to space flight programs or products.

Pay Details: $30.00 per hour
