Summary: Craig Technologies has an opening for a Station Power, Articulation, Thermal, and Analysis (SPARTAN) officer at Johnson Space Center, TX. SPARTAN is a Flight Control position that manages the external cooling system as well as power generation and distribution for the ISS.
Detailed Description:
These duties require successfully completing a training and skill certification process over 18 - 24 months. SPARTAN Flight Controllers are the prime discipline for planning, training, and executing activities supporting the USOS ISS Solar Arrays and downstream power systems as well as ISS Radiators and their associated cooling systems. SPARTAN Flight Controllers must understand and utilize engineering analysis and understand structural constraints. Additionally, these duties involve providing operational support of the development, implementation, modification, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of spacecraft hardware and subsystems while maintaining Crew and vehicle safety. SPARTANs also train astronauts and others on the basics of the ISS electrical and cooling systems. Interaction with other NASA organizations and International Partners is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required, as is the need for strong attention to detail. Related flight controller duties include writing ground and on-orbit procedures and documentation. As a flight controller in the NASA Mission Control Center, the candidate will support some non-standard work shifts in the control room and support periodic domestic and international travel as needed. Office environment duties include supporting technical meetings, writing console support products and internal SPARTAN Group documentation, and possibly supporting software development efforts that apply to the SPARTAN task. The candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic work environment and works well with other team members. The candidate will need to self-prioritize work tasks and support shift schedules as required by ISS Program schedules.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree or anticipate graduation within the next 6 months in Engineering (ABET), Physics, or Mathematics. Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real-time operations is essential.
Candidate is required to pass a standard flight controller physical examination and pass security clearances. Shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays) is required.
Candidate must demonstrate the ability to progress through flight controller and instructor certifications.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory.
Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate a wide range of tasks.
