Job Description:
The Sustainment engineer is involved in a multi-functional team on the hangar floor with coordinating the design, modification, maintenance, and repair of aircraft structures, mechanical systems, and mission equipment installations. The engineer applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for solving problems of various types and complexities. The role includes supporting the transition from engineering design to manufacturing, assembly and aircraft installation of designed products. The engineer is expected to be decisive and manage multiple tasks at any time. This position includes application of principles supporting aircraft life cycle maintenance (assessment, repair, rework and designing replacement parts). Liaison/Sustainment engineers have the opportunity to work closely with several functional organizations on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms. The engineer understands customer needs and is ready to communicate engineering rationale for decisions. This position requires significant personal interaction with many diverse organizations (aircraft mechanics, manufacturing, program management, customer representatives and other engineering disciplines).
Essential Functions:
Critical thinking and problem solving
Able to complete static analysis and discuss Durability and Damage Tolerance and Finite Element Analysis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Overtime or off-shift work may be necessary
Must be able to walk to and from the flight line, work in aircraft hangar and manufacturing environment, board/exit aircraft, to include accessing and maneuvering in restricted/limited spaces such as aircraft wing and body fuel tanks, and walking on wings and fuselage (with appropriate safety gear).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science Engineering or related field
Eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
Good computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
CAD skills are desired.
Prior experience as a co-op or intern in mechanical/structural design or liaison engin eering.
