RTX Corporation is an Aerospace and Defense company that provides advanced systems and services for commercial, military and government customers worldwide. It comprises three industry-leading businesses - Collins Aerospace Systems, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon. Its 185,000 employees enable the company to operate at the edge of known science as they imagine and deliver solutions that push the boundaries in quantum physics, electric propulsion, directed energy, hypersonics, avionics and cybersecurity. The company, formed in 2020 through the combination of Raytheon Company and the United Technologies Corporation aerospace businesses, is headquartered in Arlington, VA.
To realize our full potential, RTX is committed to creating a company where all employees are respected, valued and supported in the pursuit of their goals. We know companies that embrace diversity in all its forms not only deliver stronger business results, but also become a force for good, fueling stronger business performance and greater opportunity for employees, partners, investors and communities to succeed.
The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services, Research Center or BBN team:
For more than 90 years the RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) has operated as a multidisciplinary group of experts collaborating on groundbreaking innovations. Our team includes some of the world's leading scientists, researchers and engineers working to anticipate the discoveries destined to change everything, and they transform that research into the solutions and products that help our businesses shape the future of aerospace and defense. Our unique talent, experience and resources allow us to deliver rapid responses to critical, time-sensitive challenges and develop breakthroughs for a safer, more connected world.
The next generation of products demands that we cross traditional boundaries. RTRC has world-class design-space exploration tools for systems engineering that can also bring new capabilities to mission engineering - the deliberate planning, analysis, organization, and integration of current and emerging operational and system capabilities to achieve desired mission effects. Across the RTX businesses and product lines, there are countless military and commercial examples where new capabilities in mission engineering can be highly and beneficially disruptive, delivering military advantage for the warfighter and increased value for our commercial customers.
This Senior Principal Research Engineer position on the new Mission Engineering Team will be an opportunity for a skilled individual to grow new capabilities for RTX, pairing existing and future systems exploration capabilities with new and novel ways to evaluate mission/operational scenarios in unique and efficient ways. The ideal candidate will bring with them an expert knowledge of mission planning at multiple levels of command & control (C2) and is excited by a new and challenging opportunity to learn our unique product engineering tools and help to adapt them to create radical new approaches for the engineering and planning of missions. The ideal candidate will also be well-connected within the DoD community and their needs that remain unmet by the mission engineering tools of today. The ideal candidate will embrace unique and novel approaches that enable Mission Engineering at scale and across our product domains, and be willing to think differently to the status quo.
What You Will Do:
Integration of technical systems and operations,
Demonstrating new mission engineering capabilities to internal and external customer,
Seeding new mission engineering research topics and identifying internal and external funding opportunities,
Working closely with RTX business unit counterparts to demonstrate and transition new methods for mission engineering and operations,
Exploration and optimization methods for large design spaces across aerospace and defense system domains,
Advanced AI approaches to playing what-if scenarios and evaluating risks and uncertainties,
PIML surrogate models, rule-based AI-model training, and LLM-based code generation from missions/operations-specific language,
Collaboration across many engineering disciplines,
and much more!
