Amentum is seeking an Industrial Hygienist for Las Vegas, NV with responsibilities supporting the environmental, safety and health (ESOH) programs with focus on Industrial Hygiene and Air Force Bioenvironmental Engineering (radiation, industrial hygiene, environmental protection, and emergency response) requirements. Serves as the primary POC for IH and Bioenvironmental for Amentum and the Airforce on the RSSII contract.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assesses and mitigates workplace hazards, performs studies and analysis, performs workplace inspections, conducts mishap and incident investigations, and generates reports.
Performs work, which involves a variety of functions that require a broad range of expertise and excellent communication skills.
Adopt and manage guidelines outlined in the Amentum Safety Management System procedures.
Responsible for monitoring and preventing chemical, radiation, biological, physical hazards and diseases present throughout work sites.
Reviews and incorporates health standards published by regulatory authorities.
Ensures that quality control procedures are established to monitor all aspects of regulations.
Provides all necessary reports to Federal, State and local agencies.
Directs audits of health and safety program to identify and control conditions or acts posing a potential hazard to personnel, facilities, equipment or the environment.
Must keep fully informed on all existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations.
Update the safety training programs to ensure assigned personnel are properly trained in their disciplines IAW most current regulations and requirements.
Develops, implements and promotes communication programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of incident prevention, industrial hygiene and environmental compliance.
Applies confined spaces, lockout/tagout, hazardous waste requirements, and industrialized operation procedures when needed.
Identifies and evaluates environmental or safety hazards and makes recommendations for corrective actions
Perform professional safety and health assessments and inspections to eliminate or control physical conditions, operating practices or other factors that pose unnecessary risks to personal health and safety. Prepare written reports of the findings and recommend/coordinate corrective actions. Analyzes data gathered from literature or collected from investigations.
Maintains familiarity with the statutory requirements related to the environmental, safety, and/or health regulations.
Provide support in the development, coordination, and implementation of industrial hygiene programs.
Study the workplace environmental factors that may adversely affect employee safety and health, comfort, and productivity.
Review purchase orders requiring safety and health evaluations, approvals, and/or inspections. Provide updates of SDS or database management vendor and ensure that affected departments are aware of the updates.
Maintains a working knowledge of specific requirements imposed by government agencies, the Air Force, and other customer requirements.
Enforces compliance of operations personnel with the established Environmental, Safety, and Health guidelines, policies, and related proper practices.
Support and coordinate Bioenvironmental Engineering requirements with the government representatives related to all radiation producing devices to include ionizing sources, lasers, Electromagnetic Frequency (EMF) emitters.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or an applied science field or demonstrated equivalent.
Possess five years of directly related ESOH experience.
Must have competency in computer skills and programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Certification in one or more of the following: CSP, CIH, CHST or PE, with the preference for CIH, completed or scheduled for completion within 6 months of hire.
Must be eligible to possess and maintain a US Government Secret security clearance, with preference given to individuals with a current S clearance. Note: US citizenship is required to obtain a US Government Secret security clearance.
Possess a valid state issued driver's license.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Routine travel to contract operational sites is required.
