Job Overview:
APTIM is hiring an Environmental Chemist to perform Installation Support Services for the United States Army Garrison Redstone (USAG-R) Department of Public Works (DPW) with our partner AKIMA. This position is responsible for performing sampling and analysis of environmental samples according to state and federal guidelines. The chemist must successfully pass annual performance evaluation studies and maintain safety and professional certifications.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Follow standard operating procedures to routinely sample and analyze environmental samples according to project requirements.
Complete analyses in wet chemistry, organics, heavy metals, and bacteriological departments.
Perform collection of storm waters, waste, mold, asbestos, soils and other applicable samples in various terrain and weather conditions.
Be available to support projects during and after scheduled work hours.
Initiate work orders and schedule sampling.
Utilize Laboratory Management Information System (LIMS) to record sample data.
Perform operation, maintenance, and calibration of wet chemistry bench/handheld devices such flash point and pH meters.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain Gas Chromatography--Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Liquid Chromatography with Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) systems.
Clean laboratory glassware according to standard operating procedures.
Maintain inventories of supplies, standards, reagents, and sample wastes.
Order laboratory/safety supplies, tools, and equipment in a timely manner.
Chemist is responsible for the calculation of data and the preparation of reports in accordance with regulatory agencies.
Ensure accuracy and validity of data verified by a stringent quality control program and close control of samples from their arrival in the lab until analyses are completed and data is compiled.
Demonstrate initial/ongoing proficiency according to method requirements.
Pass Annual Discharge Monitoring Report-Quality Assurance Study (DMR-QA).
Complete all assigned professional and safety training courses.
Basic Qualifications:
Candidate must have a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry
Must have a minimum of 3 years of related chemisty experience
Valid State Driver's License.
Meet requirements for: pre-employment physical, drug screening, background check, and MVR check (MVR points are subject to company policy)
Must obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance.
Maintain physical requirements for the respirator program.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work shifts of at least 8 hours
Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods
Ability to complete task using hand tools, stooping, and climbing ladders
Ability to carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
