Required Qualifications: As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. There are no minimum education or experience qualifications for appointment to this title. Must comply with all DLAR policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience performing animal husbandry duties in a commercial or research setting.
Brief Description of Duties: The Laboratory Animal Caretaker will take care of lab animals in order to help research work.
Cleaning, changing cages, bottles, scrubbing pens, feed/water animals, observe/report sick/dead/injured animals; sweep, mop, house and squeegee rooms;
Sanitize and buff rooms;
Insure cage cards are filled out properly;
Take daily census of animal population and fill out prescribed forms;
Operate automatic cage washers;
Take garbage out;
Wash laundry;
Pair groups of animals for mating under supervision;
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes: These are full-time positions, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Weekend work may be required. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. As per Civil Service guidelines, SG 5 Hiring Rate, $33,408, Job Rate $41,328. This position includes Location pay of $3,400 per year.
