Description
Protects life and property by patrolling designated area(s) on foot; operates computer security systems; maintains security of building and their contents; ascertains status of fire and intrusion alarms; identifies and reports unsafe conditions on campus; handles emergency and other inquiries for the department; receives and dispatches emergency and other information between the campus community and on-duty university security personnel. Perform a wide range of operational support activities to include but not limited to office correspondence, greeting visitors, sorting mail, maintenance of files, databases, records, and/or other documents; develop and maintain data, perform routine analyses and calculations in the processing of data for recurring internal reports, other routine clerical and administrative tasks as assigned.
Applicants must have good interpersonal communication skills.
May be required to lift and/or carry up to 30 lbs. Applicants may be required to work irregular hours, weekends and Holidays.

Essential Functions:
Check exterior and interior of campus buildings; turn off/on lights, lock doors and windows.

Patrol campus areas and report unusual or suspicious activities.10
Enforcement of campus parking rules and regulations.10
Check alarm systems and complete electronic computer status posts in buildings to document security conditions.5
Check vending machines and safes to ensure security.5
Communicate and assist other security professionals in rendering assistance designed to protect the person, property and/or rights of individual students, faculty and staff, university facilities and the general public against injury, loss of property. 10
Monitor alarm systems, security access devices, security cameras and dispatch security professionals and MERT personnel and contact emergency authorities as needed.10
Screen office calls, visitors, provide information and assistance including responding to sensitive requests for information and assistance; provide information, directions and assistance to campus visitors, etc10
Research information and assist students, faculty, staff, vendors or visitors. 2
Accurately and with great detail, gather detailed information from both manual and computerized records and files for special reports, daily, radio, security and fire/safety incident logs to document all details for university records.10

Typical Qualifications
High School Diploma/ HSED
1 year work related experience
Valid driver's license, ability to pass a Level Four Security Clearance, ability to acquire NYS Security Guard License
