SUMMARY
New York Edge is looking for passionate and enthusiastic individuals to fill the role of Tennis Specialist. In this position, you will be critical in providing tailored, age-appropriate coaching and mentoring to young people in New York Edge's after-school day camp programs. As a Tennis Specialist, you will organize and lead tennis activities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
WORK SCHEDULE
9-15 hours per week.
Monday through Friday -- 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Motivate students to engage in tennis activities and promote daily physical fitness.
Develop and implement lesson plans that are structured, age-appropriate, and aligned with our tennis curriculum, focusing on skills such as serving, volleying, and footwork.
Maintain communication with the Program Director regarding schedules, tournaments, and special events, including friendly matches and competitions.
Encourage student participation in organization-wide tennis events and activities.
Establish and enforce safety rules and procedures to maintain order among participants, emphasizing sportsmanship and respect.
Instruct participants on tennis techniques, including stroke mechanics, scoring, and court positioning, while ensuring proper use of equipment such as racquets and balls.
Set clear lesson objectives and communicate these goals to students, focusing on skill development and tactical understanding.
Prepare facilities for tennis practices and matches, ensuring the area is safe and correctly set up.
Evaluate activities to ensure they meet desired learning outcomes and adapt to accommodate varying skill levels.
Foster the development of athletic skills and positive character traits, such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience among youth.
Provide support during academic hours as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Strong knowledge and experience in tennis, with a background in coaching or instruction, preferred.
Prior experience teaching or mentoring youth is highly desirable.
Ability to follow a structured curriculum while adapting to meet participants' needs.
Responsible, reliable, and punctual.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
May be required to walk up and down stairs.
May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.
Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events.
QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college preferred.
A minimum of one year of relevant experience in sports or youth programming is required.
A minimum of one year of teaching or coaching experience is preferred.
Demonstrate a passion for New York Edge's mission and a strong interest in youth development.
Candidates who can lead instruction in multiple sports are preferred.
The Tennis Specialist will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.
At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
