Transformer Service Senior Technician

We are seeking a Senior Transformer Technician (STT) who can independently lead field service projects while maintaining environmental safety. Your main focus will be on assembling, testing, servicing, and repairing distribution and power transformers. You may also have the opportunity to work on other tasks as part of electrical substation or powerplant projects.
Reports directly to the assigned Transformer Resource Manager (TRM) and performs work under the supervisory direction of the Crew Leader (CL). Effective communication with both TRM and CL is required throughout active projects and when awaiting assignment and/or standby time.
If needed, you may temporarily serve as a CL under the direction of TRM or your functional supervisor. Your responsibilities will involve leading crew, subcontractors, vendors, and assigned assets as outlined in the CL job description.
Often requires extensive travel and non-standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions.
How You'll Make an Impact
Perform complex transformer field service operations that require strong technical skills and perform duties in accordance with customer and industry regulations and standards.
Solve and repair transformer equipment, applying own knowledge and experience to resolve problems or recommend changes or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction
Communicate clearly and professionally (written and/or verbal) regarding project scope, safety reviews (i.e., tailgate meetings), security or environmental incidents, safety violations, or near misses
Guide less experienced technicians, instructing them in proper and safe operation of equipment
Serve as expert level transformer tester capable of testing and fixing at all levels, startup commissioning, condition assessments, and receipt inspections and rigger for all tasks related to transformer service work. Will provide detailed explanation of test results to all levels of personnel and/or customer
Performs work to required Quality Assurance (QA) specification including vacuum, oil logs, and job walkdown for issues prior to project completion
Displays consistent improvement in the understanding of the testing process including proper test procedures, electrical theory, electrical clearances, NFPA70E, and the proper use of testing terminology
Aid CL or TRM in planning field service project set-up, coordinating equipment and vendors, scheduling heavy equipment, etc. Additionally, assist in data collection and preparation of job reports for analysis
Responsible to maintain budget parameters in scheduling work hours, expenses, and expected vendor/subcontractor delivery requirements
Report work time and expenses daily or weekly using online tools (i.e., mySPGI, Concur, etc.)
Record and compile data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports
Perform brazing and crimping of transformer leads with technical knowledge of proper clearances and IEEE standard of reinsulating leads. Also required to train less experienced personnel on this duty
Perform all tasks associated with re-gasketing of transformers and cutting new gaskets/O-rings as needed
Maintain safe operating condition of vehicles, tools, & equipment, including conducting detailed inventories & inspections to resolve maintenance & repairs. Perform repairs & maintenance per maintenance schedule
Follow and carry out Siemens Energy Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and perform additional duties as assigned by TRM and/or CL
What You Bring
High school diploma, GED, or technical vocational/apprenticeship training combined with prior field service or equivalent related experience
Minimum of 6 years of experience in technical assembly, maintenance, and repair of transformers in utility/energy electrical industry
Demonstrated ability to multitask, lead multiple priorities, and support the CL with supervising less senior crew members, subcontractors, and vendors
Ability to select most effective approaches and adapt standard practices and procedures to resolve complex technical problems
Electro-mechanical skills in the safe and correct assembly and maintenance of power and distribution transformers and transformer accessories
Perform power and distribution transformer receipt inspections and complete receipt inspection reports per standard processes set forth.
Perform as a factory service representative with minimal supervision.
Comprehensive skills to interpret the scope of work, assembly, general arrangement drawings, electrical prints, and one-line diagrams as well as test data and factory instruction manuals
Implementation of correct operation of transformer oil processing, including vacuum, oil filling, and circulating and draining oil-filled transformers along with complete documentation of the process as required
Support assigned tester on projects by performing expert-level testing of power and distribution transformers and accessories. Interpret and document results using standard Microsoft Office, test equipment, and software
Strong commercial and industrial control wiring and problem-solving skills
Handle and perform service maintenance of company vehicles, oil processing equipment, generators, and test equipment
Capable of communicating with customer in a professional manner and ability to lead less experienced staff
Operate various equipment in a construction environment (i.e., man lifts and forklifts) with experienced knowledge in handling electrical equipment and uncrating)
Requires experienced level skill in Distribution, Power, and Transmission electrical substation equipment. Must have experience with power ranges of low-voltage (4160V - 13kV), medium-voltage (13kV - 69kV), or high-voltage (69kV - 800 kV)
Great teammate with a positive attitude
Must perform proficiently at other less senior technical levels (i.e., Tech Asst, Tech 2, Tech 1).
Maintaining Class A CDL requirements as described in contract section 9.09 article c) qualifies for a yearly bonus
EH&S/OSHA training is required or will be provided
