Amentum is seeking an USCG Unlicensed Engineer for a position on Kauai, HI. Supporting the Marine Department. Works under the general direction of the Lead Mechanic, Boat Captain, or Section Supervisor. As Marine Mechanic B, performs preventive and corrective maintenance on shore facilities and shore vessel equipment. Operates fuel trucks, cranes, forklifts, and shop equipment. Repairs equipment, designs and fabricates parts, and manages stocks of material. Selected candidate will be trained and signed off to support at sea tasking; however, primary responsibility will be shore side support.
Responsibilities
Specific assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:
Performs repairs and modifications to power plant and other mechanical/electrical systems associated marine vessels, in conformance with federal, state, and special marine regulations.
Performs periodic inspections and maintenance tasks IAW published procedures and/or OEM guidelines.
Maintains engine room log IAW the vessels SOP and the SOW.
Maintains engine room in a clean and orderly manner IAW accepted marine practices.
Takes periodic soundings of fuel oil and freshwater tanks. Replenishes tanks when necessary to meet operational and maintenance requirements.
Operates fuel trucks, stake truck, cranes, and shop equipment.
Performs daily bilge inspections and related tasks as directed.
Performs duties as the Marine Department welder performing MIG, TIG, Stick Welding, brazing, and silver soldering at the journeyman level. Repairs equipment and designs and fabricates parts from stock material. Maintains inventories of stock.
Assists in preparing and developing new procedures, procedural changes, and modification proposals.
Position is normally assigned to the shore facility, but employee is required to go to sea when assigned. While assigned to shore facility will be required to assist supervisor with supply paperwork as well as HAZMAT issue for the site.
Performs other duties as required.
Additional Responsibilities
Works aboard assigned vessels and dinghies.
Must pass annual medical evaluations and required US Coast Guard medical examinations.
Must pass periodic random drug test.
Must be able to climb and descend shipboard ladders and masts safely and efficiently.
Must be a strong swimmer and comfortable swimming in ocean environment.
Must be able to climb shipboard ladders and work in cramped engine spaces.
Must be able to lift common deck equipment and recovery gear.
Able to lift, push and pull 50lbs.
Work requires excessive walking, standing, crawling, kneeling or repeated stooping.
Must be capable of remaining at sea for up to 48 or more hours without excessive motion sickness.
Must be physically fit and capable of spending extensive hours/days at sea in all weather conditions including performing emergency duties listed in the vessel Station Bill.
Must be able to complete company specific training within 120 days of hire.
Must be proficient in written and verbal English language skills.
Minimum Qualifications
High School or equivalent.
Marine trade school graduate is highly desirable.
Three years' experience in a related field, or marine tech school plus two years' experience in marine systems
Can assist in the overhaul of diesel engines, electrical generators & hydraulic systems.
Possesses knowledge of shop equipment & welding techniques
Experience performing target, torpedo and oceanographic equipment recovery.
Needs to be comfortable working in and entering the water to accomplish recoveries.
Has experience operating radio and oceanographic equipment to transmit this data.
Experience with snorkel equipment and be comfortable working in water.
Experience performing daily operational tasks and general maintenance on vessels and related support equipment.
Minimum 360 days of experience working aboard vessels on the ocean or U.S. waters.
Comfortable entering the water in the open ocean with snorkel gear; SCUBA certified is highly desired.
Has basic computer skills in Micro Soft Word, Outlook, Excel
Possesses basic knowledge of common vessel equipment, nautical terms, snorkel equipment, lines, ropes, related equipment and ground tackle.
Certifications
Must possess and maintain:
Valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
United States Coast Guard (USCG) Merchant Mariner's Credential (MMC), USCG QMED Oiler endorsement certification
Valid State Driver's License
Have or be able to obtain CPR/AED/1st Aid (obtained through USCG certification)
Have or be able to obtain Open Water SCUBA Diver certification.
Security Clearance
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a US Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.
