Job Title: Computer Scientist (NWS 00721)
THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS IN A CALENDAR YEAR
North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.
Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Computing Division has an opening in the Livermore Computing (LC) Division for a Computer Scientist to mentor group members on the configuration and management aspects of LC's security core infrastructure and oversees a large number of highly complex and mission critical service. The successful candidate will collaborate on the implementation of improvements within the LC Division.
Essential Duties
Support and train staff on the administration of LC user accounts, OTP tokens, banks, UNIX groups, and shared directories, ensuring efficient and effective use of LC supercomputers.
Collaborate on implementation of improvements to existing procedures and tools.
Train staff to work with various WCI scientific and administrative colleagues to fulfill customer needs and elicit requirements. Teams include Desktop Support, HPC support, and WCI support to ensure operation, proper integration, and maintenance of systems.
Provide input and status updates for project tracking.
Provide excellent customer service and advanced technical assistance to the LC user community by answering call, emails, and service requests.
Perform other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
Expert-level knowledge of LDAP, Kerberos, RSA OTP, and other identity and authentication services.
Ability to provide consultative support of authentication services.
Continue to document and transfer his deep knowledge about how STT's service portfolio is set up and the history of LC security services.
-Work independently with complete autonomy.
Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate, negotiate and influence all levels of personnel, and the tri-lab community.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and document, present and explain technical information.
Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.
Pre-employment drug test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post offer, pre-employment drug test.
Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
