Performs mechanical related technical effort on facility and research hardware and mechanical systems. Assists in the preparation and operation of the test facilities. Responsibilities and duties will include:
Lays out and builds complex tubing systems using flaring machines and tubing benders.
Disassembles, repairs, reassembles, and verifies various types of valves, valve operators, and pressure regulators.
Operates high-pressure gas systems including gas tubers, pressure reduction stations, pressure pumps, and seals.
Works with and has a basic understanding of environmental test chambers, leak detectors, and vacuum systems.
Fabricates, installs, operates, and maintains mechanical control test panels, and special test equipment.
Operates facility overhead crane, bucket trucks, man-lifts, forklifts, and portable cranes. Provides rigging for lifting equipment and material, including lifting straps, chain hoists, and come-along.
Welds horizontally, overhead, and vertically using oxy-acetylene, FCAW, and GTAW on a variety of materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, copper, brass, etc.
Ability to test and pass AWS D1.1 GTAW & FCAW and D1.6 GTAW welding certification tests 90 days after hire.
Operates large mechanical tools such as a drill press, power hacksaw, band saw, shears, pipe threaders, brakes, rollers, lathes, milling machines and grinders. Operates small power tools including air wrenches, drills, grinders, etc.

Works while bending, stooping, kneeling, or in a prone position for extended time periods.

Lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds, sometimes up and down stairways, where lifting devices and hoists are not available.
Pushes and pulls heavy objects.
Ability to use hearing and vision protection and respiratory equipment.
Welding, cutting, and grinding within confined spaces.

Works indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.
Work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environment.
Work in areas where there may be materials that are irritating to eyes, nose, throat, and skin requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

Criticality of Attendance
Hiring organization works a "compressed" schedule with 9-hour days and every other Friday off. Work hours are 6:30 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime is sometimes necessary to support meetings, test schedules, and test operations. A compressed work schedule is currently required for this position but may be alternate at the sole discretion of the company. Testing may occur any day or time of day within this schedule depending on the schedule and test requirements. Regular daily attendance is required to maintain team effectiveness.

The base salary range for this position is 80,000 - 90,000 . This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
May possess an A.A./A.S. General Engineering, or other related vocational program with 5 or more years of related experience. Additional years of related experience may count as educational equivalency. Typically, has specialized technical knowledge or experience related to job duties at a practical level along with theoretical knowledge.
Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of hazardous facilities.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow.
Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
Must have experience with computers using Microsoft Office.
