Job Title: Systems Safety Engineer IIIJob Description
Activities include system safety analysis of military weapon systems, participation in risk assessments/resolution and mishap investigations. The ideal candidate will have experience with MIL-STD-882E and familiarity with military and industry standards such as MIL-STD-882, RCC 319, ASTM, ANSI, NEC, AFOSH, AOP-52, JOTP-051, PESHE, and NFPA.
Responsibilities
Perform system safety analysis of military weapon systems.
Participate in risk assessments and resolution processes.
Conduct mishap investigations and provide analysis.
Analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards using MIL-STD-882E.
Document hazards using a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System (HTS).
Apply system safety engineering principles to develop safety documentation such as SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SuSHA, Bent Pin Analyses, FTA, SAR, and Software Safety Analyses.
Develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and requirements.
Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Essential Skills
BS in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree with 9 years of relevant experience or MS in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree with 7 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated ability in the application of MIL-STD-882E.
Experience documenting hazards with a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System (HTS).
Familiarity with electrical circuit design.
Demonstrated ability to develop safety documentation in accordance with MIL-STD-882E.
History of demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Ability to work independently.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Possess active DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret electrical circuit schematics.
Experience implementing and testing software safety requirements.
Experience in the design of missile systems.
Strong working knowledge of military system safety and process standards and their industry equivalents.
Knowledge of System Safety Incident Investigation process.
Work Environment
The role involves working with military weapon systems, requiring familiarity with various military and industry standards. The position requires effective communication and independent work. Active DoD Security Clearance is required.
