We are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented self-starter with a passion for supporting the Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission as an SDA Systems Engineer. In this role, you will support a high visibility project for Space Systems Command that is used daily to support worldwide operations from the tactical to strategic level. Integrated Solutions for Situational Awareness (ISSA) supports a diverse userbase of more than 6,000 members of the DoD, IC and other governmental organizations (OGA). You will provide subject matter expertise to the customer and engineering teams for both our web-based platform and thick client solution in support of the development of new software applications, data flows, and supporting analytics. You will also contribute to the development of the test strategy when new analytics must be written by the Parsons team. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data products, conducting research on critical aspects of the overall design of the system, and utilize your knowledge and experience in orbital analysis and astrodynamics to assist in delivering this critical capability.
Due to the level of engagement and collaboration with leadership and the team, this position requires working at Schriever SFB a minimum of one day per week and working at Parsons Colorado Springs Office a minimum of three days per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise to project stakeholders, developers and users in support of the continual evolution of Integrated Solutions for Situational Awareness (ISSA) to respond to a rapidly evolving threat environment in space
- Assist with the development of specific test strategies for the verification and validation of new Space Domain Awareness (SDA) related analytics written by the Parsons team
- Research and present findings related to various technical issues and challenges
- Based on future growth projections, be willing—when called upon—to provide oversight and supervision of other space subject matter experts (SMEs) or systems engineers
- Prepare and present materials to internal and external stakeholders
- Support business growth initiatives via contract proposals, attendance at customer meetings and conferences, and one-on-one engagements as needed
- Analyze user’s requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications
- Analyze system requirements in order to lead design activities and advise developers on strategies for new Space Domain Awareness (SDA) tools that will fill current or emergent gaps to support space protection or overflight warning operations
- Guide users in formulating requirements, advise alternative approaches, and technologies.
- Develop system architectural and system design documentation.
- Responsible for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the Systems Engineering area of responsibility.
- Communicate with program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university + 15 years of experience doing Systems Engineering related duties in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity OR Master’s Degree in Science/Engineering from an accredited college or university + 13 years of experience doing Systems Engineering related duties in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity
- Strong background in astrodynamics with deep understanding of US Space Force data formats and the Astrodynamics Standards library
- Strong background in the official Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC) and Naval Network Warfare Command (NAVNETWARCOM) toolsets for supporting satellite overflight warning
- Understanding of the current process Department of Defense uses for Space Domain Awareness from resident space object observation to the exploitation of satellite state data
- Understanding of the current processes the Intelligence Community uses to characterize resident space objects
- Knowledge of the foundational concepts of orbit determination, orbit propagation and Department of Defense (DoD) Concepts of Operations (CONOPS) supporting the Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission
- Experience with verification and validation testing
- Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Must be creative, flexible and willing to work with constantly changing priorities
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

- Current cybersecurity certification (Sec+)
- Active TS/SCI clearance with current CI Poly (completed within last 7-years and willingness to renew when needed)
- Must be a US Citizen due to support of US government contracts
Desired Skills
- Experience with JIRA or similar issue tracking systems
- Experience with National Intelligence systems, data and processes
- Postgraduate classes in astrophysics, space systems or astronautical engineering
- Prior work experience with Special Access Required (SAR) and Alternative Compensatory Control Measures (ACCM) data and handling requirements

Salary Range:
