The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Looking for a Mechanical Engineer to help NASA launch the most powerful rocket ever built in the pursuit of the return to the Moon and Mars missions.
Engineering discipline shall be Mechanical/Hypers related and primarily pertains to operating and maintaining systems, and developing system subject matter expert knowledge. Responsibilities include system analysis; developing plans, processes, and procedures; documentation preparation for spacecraft processing.
Responsibilities
Candidate will support the COMETs Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering, and Test (COMET) contract Spaceflight Processing Directorate within the Hypers Engineering department. Performing engineering in support of spacecraft processing for the NASA Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) and the NASA Launch Services Program (LSP) spacecraft.
Initial assignments will focus on developing an understanding of Hypers ground support equipment. (GSE) Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting non-conformances and problem resolution.
Assignments will include preparing GSE for maintenance and hypergolic servicing operations.
Candidates will be required to develop and apply knowledge of technical principles for Orion MPCV and LSP processing operations. Develop an
understanding of ground to vehicle interfaces, vehicle/ground system design and operation.
Additional responsibilities in spacecraft processing include; Procedural development, test requirements, system training and task leader certification.

Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution
May be filled at a higher lever based on qualifications
Must have the ability to successfully interface with customer Engineers and test Team representatives as well as manage completion of tasks on schedule to customer satisfaction.
Ability to read schematics, drawings, and specifications as well as interpret and communicate to the Test Team.
Ability to write detailed technical work instructions for Execution. Previous experience with manufacturing, integration, or ground processing a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in report writing as well as technical presentations.
Experience working as a member of a formal team and able to function as such immediately.
Understand and learn hardware configurations and processes.
Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision and only general guidance. Must be motivated to learn and execute.
In-depth computer experience with Microsoft Office products, Internet browsers, and outlook.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary.
Physical Requirements
Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting.
Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment.
Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
Work Environment
Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site.
Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, is required to access various locations on the facility.
Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.
All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.

Attendance
Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.
Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task.
Must be dependable and punctual.
Shift work may be required.

Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
