The MITRE Special Operations Department (N252) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineer with demonstrated experience in supporting the military and Special Operations Forces (SOF) community. The N252 Department operates across a globally integrated team, and partners closely with other MITRE departments and MITRE Labs in support of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Headquarters, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the Service Component Special Operations Commands (SOCs), and the Theatre Special Operations Commands (TSOCs). We work with the SOF Community to reduce risk; impact mission success; and help ensure the safe return of operators.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Qualified candidates will have a strong technical, multi-disciplinary background in engineering, with a specific emphasis on nuclear and mechanical engineering, complemented by excellent soft skills and demonstrated experience supporting the special operations, defense, or intelligence communities. Selected candidates will work closely with our global team and other mission partners in support of Special Operations Forces (SOF), connecting with MITRE Labs and SOF-relevant research initiatives to advance MITRE's unique brand. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively, demonstrating strong teamwork and cooperation with MITRE, military, and civilian experts to address critical mission needs; provide options that anticipate operational needs; and identify relevant emerging technologies that address SOF mission challenges. Selected candidates will bring a unique blend of technical expertise and operational experience, enabling them to effectively support SOF initiatives and contribute to mission success.
Selected candidates will demonstrate the following:
Domain/Technical Competence. Demonstrate strong familiarity in two or more of the following areas: (1) Special Operations (2) Special Communications (3) Nuclear Engineering (4) Mechanical Engineering (5) Systems Engineering (6) Mission Experimentation.
Collaboration. Engage and collaborate with engineers and planners, subject matter experts, specialists, and industry professionals. Regularly interact with technical expertise from MITRE Labs, capabilities from the MITRE Platforms, and other sponsor efforts to support the FFRDC value proposition.
Sponsor Experience. Comfortably and respectfully engage with military and civilian leaders and engineers, as well as industry partners.
Flexibility and Suitability. Be able to modify and alter course as the environment and sponsor priorities shift. Understand the power of reach-back and be an effective conduit to bring the talent forward to execute at the right time. Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations, ensuring operational readiness and effective response to emerging threats.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically, 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's Degree in a technical domain, such as Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or similar field); or 2-3 years of related experience with a Master's Degree.
Demonstrated ability to work in dynamic and multi-disciplinary environments.
Must be able to work in a collaborative environment and adjust to changing deadlines and priorities to accomplish the customer mission.
Demonstrate strong familiarity in two or more of the following areas: (1) Special Operations (2) Special Communications (3) Nuclear Engineering (4) Mechanical Engineering (5) Systems Engineering (6) Mission Experimentation.
Applicants selected for this position must have an active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field.
Proven ability to provide objective solutions and recommendations to address customer challenges.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective technical presentation skills
Knowledge and experience working with a wide variety of interagency and intelligence community partners.
Previous experience within Combatant Commands
Self-starter, with an eagerness to work with ambiguity and imperfect information.
