Empire State University is currently seeking a versatile Instructional Designer to provide expertise in the development and revision of online courses and support the use of technology to enhance learning for SUNY Empire. The individual in this role can select a specific job track but needs to have the skills of an instructional designer with a strong grasp of technology. This role will provide on-demand instructional technology and design consultation, guidance, and support to faculty using current research-driven learning design principles, instructional technologies, and best practices. The selected incumbent will provide training and support on a range of concepts, including but not limited to accessibility, assessment, copyright, and open educational resources (OERs) to faculty and students. This role will also include development of training materials and resources. The Instructional Designer will collaborate with a team of subject matter experts, instructional technologists, librarians, multimedia designers, and other instructional designers, and follow the established project management processes. We are seeking a dedicated candidate who will receive comprehensive training in a trauma-informed instructional design model, ensuring they are well-equipped to create educational content that is sensitive to the unique needs and experiences of individuals affected by trauma.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Web Design and Development, or a related field.
A minimum of one year experience in instructional technology, educational technology, instructional design, or a related educational field.
Outstanding communication and technical writing skills.
Experience working in team-based, diverse environments.
Organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Experience with Course/Learning Management Systems, Brightspace preferred.
Knowledge of OSCQR, Quality Matters, or other online course standards.
Experience developing training materials and facilitating virtual training sessions.
Understanding of ADA compliance and accessibility.
Basic knowledge of HTML markup language and CSS.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years working directly with faculty from higher education.
Experience with Desire2Learn's Brightspace Learning Management System.
Experience supporting third-party tools, such as VoiceThread, MS Teams, video platforms, and textbook integrations.
Two or more years working directly with faculty from higher education in the development and revision of online courses.
Experience providing instructional design support in a large scale, high volume distributed environment.
Fluency in English and Spanish.
Experience translating written materials from English to Spanish, unaided by technology.
Special Information:
Occasional travel may be required to fulfill university-wide commitments.

Rank/Salary: Instructional Support Technician, SL3 / $55,500-$60,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
