Department Summary:
The N111 Future Space Capabilities Department's mission is to provide thought leadership and data driven analysis to enable the Department of the Air Force and the US Space Force to design, develop, acquire, and integrate future warfighting space mission area designs, including space system-of-systems architectures and space programs, in time to outpace accelerating threats. Our focus is to create, integrate, and assess space concepts, technologies, enterprise architectures, and wargaming to fight and win.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Senior Space Sensing M&S Engineer, you will work in the public interest and help solve our nation's most technically challenging problems by collaborating with and cohering efforts with multiple MITRE and government organizations to build a more capable and resilient space enterprise. You will fill the demanding role as a technical Modeling & Simulation (M&S) expert and a trusted technical advisor to the Space Systems Command's (SSC) Space Sensing Directorate (SSC/SN). You will be part of the MITRE team supporting the acquisition of resilient Missile Warning and Missile Tracking capabilities, and you will synchronize activities between the SSC/SN Material Leaders and MITRE experts.
Job Responsibilities:
Work with MITRE's Space Sensing Project Leader (PL) to define, develop, and execute MITRE's Modeling and Simulation (M&S) strategy.
Collaborate with MITRE's Space Sensing PL on key product deliveries and with the N111 Department Chief Engineer (CE) to establish M&S product delivery timelines and internal-MITRE peer-reviews.
Cohere data driven M&S solutions across MITRE and provide thought leadership in developing and coordinating Space Sensing system requirements.
Lead and coordinate M&S activities across MITRE teams supporting SSC/SN, other Air & Space Force Center (A&SFC) divisions, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), Space Development Agency (SDA), the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC), and the Intelligence Community (IC) for Missile Warning, Missile Tracking, Missile Defense, Battlespace Awareness, Technical Intelligence, and space-based Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
Collaborate and partner with MITRE leadership in other departments, divisions, MITRE Labs and innovation centers to execute a cohesive work program with excellence and impact.
Mentor junior team members on the project to grow the team's M&S capabilities.
Champion and broaden MITRE's impact on the space systems development industry.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Demonstrated technical depth in the field of sensors or Systems Engineering Modeling & Simulation
Demonstrated ability to deliver M&S solutions and capabilities
Five years of experience developing Modeling & Simulation solutions and capabilities
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build consensus across organizational units
The ability to think critically and be proactive in pursuing research and problem-solving with minimal supervision.
Communicate highly conceptual ideas effectively.
Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in a relevant field
Five years of experience with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) technology: space sensors and/or ground systems
Demonstrated leadership experience
Recognized expertise in Space systems, Space and Ground Mission Platforms, Mission applications, and Modeling & Simulation
Experience with Space Systems and OPIR sensors/Platforms/Ground Modernization efforts
Experience in the Missile Warning-Missile Tracking (MW-MT) and/or Missile Defense (MD)
Recognized as a leader in the OPIR technology, and MW-MT/MD stakeholder community
Top Secret clearance
Experience with Digital Engineering
