Job Description:
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Florida seeks an instructor at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (working title: Assistant/Associate Instructional Professor) with experience teaching Spanish, coordinating language courses at the university level, and mentoring instructors (including graduate teaching assistants. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position (promotion eligible) to be renewed on a year-to-year basis, contingent on funding. The start date is August 16, 2025.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Teaching in the Lower Division Spanish program, with an occasional course at the Upper Division level (dependent on departmental needs); the typical teaching assignment for non-tenure track (instructional) faculty is three courses per semester.
Working closely with the Director of Language Instruction to coordinate Lower Division Spanish language courses and to supervise and mentor graduate teaching assistants.
Participating in departmental duties, including committee work, ongoing training in pedagogy, curriculum development, and supervision of instructors.
The ideal candidate will have: a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Spanish or closely related field (M.A. or M.Ed. will be considered if other qualifications are outstanding); native or native-like fluency in English and Spanish; demonstrated excellence as a teacher; experience as a supervisor and/or coordinator in a college-level language program; and exceptional organizational and mentorship skills.
Additional desirable qualities include experience or interest in one or more of the following: Spanish for specific purposes; online instruction; leading study abroad programs.
Candidates at the Senior Lecturer level must have a record of academic excellence and professional experience commensurate with the title.
