Fugees Coach
Coaches at Fugees help to create a safe, highly effective, and well-organized educational environment where families are supported with authentic, culturally competent engagement and communication, and where the intersection between academics and athletics is effectively used to foster student success. Fugees Coaches are both paraprofessionals (working during the school day for non-instructional family & student support ) and athletic staff (coaching school wide soccer teams both afterschool and on weekends).
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
FAMILY SUPPORT & ENGAGEMENT
Responsible for building strong home-school relationships by:
Having regular communication with her/his/their assigned families.
Making regular home visits to assigned families.
Working with the Family Engagement Coordinator to ensure adequate language access to school information for assigned families at school events
Being familiar with the academic progress of the students in her/his/their assigned families.
Collected data as required by the Family Engagement Coordinator for federal programs.
STUDENT SUPPORT
Supporting struggling students to self-monitor and adjust disruptive behavior
Assisting teachers in the classroom as needed
Assisting throughout the building with non-instructional duties
SOCCER
Supporting teachers to integrate aspects of soccer in the classroom
Run practice for assigned soccer teams after school
Assist with the inventory of soccer equipment and materials
Responsible for the transportation of students, staff and equipment to and from soccer practice & events
Prioritizes the safety of students by ensuring proper sport, safety, CPR and other protocols
Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Fluency in English plus one or more of the following languages is a requirement:
Arabic, Burmese, French, Karen, Pashto, Spanish, or Swahili
One or more years of experience working with youth, preferably in an urban setting;
One or more years of experience coaching a sports team (soccer preferred);
Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required.
Successful results on an FBI and state criminal background check.
Valid driver's license and comfort driving a 15-passenger van required.
Experience working in refugee/immigrant communities preferred.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and public;
A belief that all students can learn at high levels and should be held to high academic standards;
Diplomacy and sensitivity to different cultural situations
Must be a person of unquestionable character - high integrity, hardworking, and honest
Committed, and a team player capable of working with minimum supervision
