Northrop Grumman is seeking a Linux Engineer to join our Submarine Trainer Development Team supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. You will work with latest generation Intel based servers, Linux cluster configurations and virtualization architectures including Red Hat KVM. You will be responsible for designing, installing, monitoring, optimizing, and troubleshooting our large-scale System of Systems architecture building high-fidelity simulation, training, and analysis products for the US Navy. This position requires US Citizenship, a DoD Secret Security clearance, and is full-time onsite.
The responsibilities for this position are to design, develop, install, and integrate submarine training systems. Qualified applicants will perform the following tasks:
Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, system services, application software and system management tools for Linux systems, both natively and within virtual machines
Work with team to monitor and test applications, virtual machines, and containers to identify issues with installation and performance.
Troubleshoot Information Technology (IT) Systems to diagnose and suggest/implement potential solutions.
Support physical hardware installation of IT computing equipment and cabling at both local and remote sites.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other related field and 5 years experience OR Master's Degree with 3 years of experience bachelor's OR 9 years in lieu of degree
Experience with bash scripting.
Experience with virtualization technologies, preferably Red Hat KVM (e.g., Red Hat KVM, VMware, libvirt/virsh)
Networking knowledge (OSI Network Layers, TCP/IP, DHCP)
US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Ability to work on site at Middletown RI.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Security Clearance
Current IAT Level I Certifications
Network+ Security+ Linux+ Experience with Cisco switch/router configuration development and deployment
Experience with System Build Automation Tools (Linux kickstart, Puppet, Windows Deployment Server (WDS)
Computer/Electronics Hardware knowledge
Intel server configurations
Configuration management experience with both centralized and distributed version control systems (e.g., SVN and Git)
Experience with submarine tactical systems.
Navy junior officer experience.
Salary Range: $102,400 - $153,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
