Position Description:
The Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Advanced Assistant/Associate Professor in Curriculum & Instruction within the Language, Diversity & Literacy Studies Track with a focus in Early Literacy education to begin September 1, 2025. This position requires a strong educational background in early literacy and knowledge of teaching young multilingual learners. The position requires the ability to teach master's and doctoral courses both face-to-face and online.

Major/Essential Functions:
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Additionally, applicants should expect to:
Develop and teach master's level and doctoral level courses in the field of early literacy education
Oversee the Professional Reading Specialist program for master's students
Liaise with the College of Education Certification Office
Maintain records of candidates for the Professional Reading Specialist program
Advise master's students in the Language & Literacy master's program
Advise doctoral students
Oversee and chair student dissertations
Develop partnerships with school districts and state Region Service Centers
Conduct program assessment for the Professional Reading Specialist program?
Actively participate in department and university initiatives to ensure quality programs, overall excellence in the Professional Reading Specialist program, master's program, and doctoral program
Exhibit strong skills in scholarly research, including maintaining a strong publishing record commensurate with an associate level position and pursuing grant funding opportunities
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments, responsibilities, and functions of the Language, Diversity & Literacy Studies program

Professional Reading Specialist or similar credential
Experience teaching appropriate university courses and online teaching

Evidence of grant procurement
Active engagement in professional organizations in the field of Literacy/Reading Education

Experience utilizing learning management systems (LMS) and computer applications is essential (i.e. Blackboard, Canvas)

About the Department/School/Area:
The Language, Diversity & Literacy Studies program is a dynamic program that addresses several needs in K-12 educational settings and domains of research. We have a track in the Curriculum & Instruction Ph.D. We also have a master's degree in Language & Literacy. The program's faculty have diverse expertise in applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, bi-/multilingual education, literacy, composition studies, and creative writing.
The Language & Literacy master's is a 36-hour degree constructed upon Texas Education Agency (TEA) Reading Specialist Standards and Science of Teaching Reading Standards as well as the International Literacy Association's (2017) Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals. The Language & Literacy master's has three embedded credentials students can obtain as part of the degree:?

Developmental Literacy Graduate Certificate?
Dual Credit Credential in English?
Our Professional Reading Specialist program was recently accredited by CAEP and passed the TEA audit. In our master's program, we bring the strands of embedded credentials and state and national standards together through a competency-based approach that is threaded through each class in the program as well as the culminating comprehensive portfolio students complete at the end of the program.?

Faculty Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in Education (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Reading/Literacy or a closely related field and 18 graduate credit hours in literacy
Three or more years of early or elementary literacy teaching experience in a K-12 setting
Experience teaching diverse and multilingual learners
Experience providing research-informed instruction in literacy
Record of scholarship commensurate with rank
Research agenda focused on a facet of emergent literacy or early literacy
Experience interfacing with schools and state education agencies
