Responsibilities This position is the Branch Chief of the Restoration and Monitoring Branch and provides supervision, program leadership, policy development, and direction to senior level staff. The work supervised by this position is comprised of a wide variety of profession and technical disciplines and includes geospatial ecology, monitoring, abandoned mine land and hazardous materials management, remote sensing, and restoration ecology. Ensures compliance with policies and direction relating to the above programs and arranges necessary interdisciplinary coordination among Branch personnel and between specialists in different branches and offices. Recommends statewide monitoring and restoration management policy. Evaluates monitoring and restoration program effectiveness. Works with the Deputy State Director and other Branch Chiefs on budget planning and accomplishments. Specialized experience is further defined as: Applying the principles of public land management concepts, principles, practices and procedures along with applicable laws, regulations, and case law; Knowledge and skill in the application of planning principles, interpretation of agency policy, laws, and regulations; Knowledge of the majority of forestry, wildlife, wild horses and burros, and native plants and policies; Experience working with a variety of relationships between and among Federal agencies, State and local governments and the public including user groups, industry and other special interest groups; and Knowledge of managerial and administrative theory, practices, methods, and procedures. Physical Demands: Generally work is performed in an office setting with occasional trips to the field, which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions, such as cold or extreme heat, isolated locations and rugged terrain. The incumbent must be able to sit, walk or stand and perform off-road driving for prolonged periods of time. Incumbent may be required to participate in numerous, lengthy meetings at local and distant meetings. Overnight travel may be required. Work Environment: Work is normally performed in the office, although some occasional field trips are involved. Field work may include walking or driving motor vehicles over rough terrain in remote in remote areas in all kinds of weather. Office work will periodically involve abnormal stress situations involving completion of work to meet short deadlines and other factors.
