WSP is currently initiating a search for an Instrument Operator for our Boston, MA office. The following locations will also be considered: Worcester, MA and Merrimack, NH . Under direct supervision, provides survey support to the projects to ensure construction compliance with plans, specifications and contract documents. Tasks may include assisting with and receiving training in performing land surveys and conducting research on various construction projects of basic complexity which may include visually mapping/drafting legal boundaries and the potential placement of structures, utilities, and installations. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for uniformity, thoroughness, and legal compliance for survey documents.
Your Impact
Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, researching, and analyzing data from property/utility records, deeds, land/property titles, structural plans, and other matrices for land surveying activities.
Under general supervision, use survey instruments to perform various types of property surveys on projects of basic complexity and/or scope, which could include boundary, existing condition, topographic, as-built, subdivision, and profile maps.
Provides basic professional survey assistance that accounts for accurate survey data, and determines conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, boundaries, and construction specifications.
Assist with surveyor activities for projects of a basic scope and complexity within a district.
Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to site inspection and survey findings using photographs, sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and reports.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Work collaboratively with other professionals, engineers, scientists, and technicians on assigned survey tasks.
Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction.
Remain current in the latest survey knowledge, techniques, and practices.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma.
Minimum of 3 year of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior surveying experience with easements, rights of way, plats, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, property descriptions, and GPS surveys.
Familiar with land survey principles, practices, process, methods and techniques
Familiar with relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Excellent research and evaluation skills with analytical mindset.
Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Basic proficiency with survey equipment (e.g. Leica Robotic Total Station), AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or Geopak.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
Essential professional licensure/certification.
