HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide.
HX5 at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio is currently seeking a part-time temporary Acoustics Research Engineer with experience in the analysis of noise generated from transonic jet flows.
The selected candidate will perform the following tasks:
Investigate how acoustic excitation parameters influence the generation, amplification, and suppression of guided jet waves (GJWs) in a Mach 0.95 jet.
Reproduce and validate reported GJW phenomena using the COMSOL Multiphysics software package.
Identify frequency ranges in which upstream-propagating GJWs are maximally amplified and those in which they are naturally suppressed.
Verify linear scaling and superposition behavior of the numerical model with respect to source strength.
Evaluate the use of source placement as a control parameter for enhancing or suppressing GJW modes.
Investigate whether phased or multiple-source configurations can suppress upstream propagating GJW modes.
Documenting, reporting, and presenting results clearly and concisely.
Required Skills:
Exceptional knowledge and experience with the analysis of jet acoustics.
Specialized experience using COMSOL to evaluate guided jet wave physics.
Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex datasets from test campaigns.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a record of high-quality publications and presentations.
Proven ability to integrate effectively into multi-disciplinary research teams and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
High motivation, creativity, and problem-solving ability.
Other Desired Skills:
Familiarity with Federal regulations for aircraft noise emissions.
Familiarity with jet noise experimental measurements and analysis.
Familiarity with aircraft engine analysis and design.
