The metallurgist will be proficient in laboratory testing, including sample preparation and competent test execution. The role requires expertise in general lab procedures and specific procedures for which certification is held. Responsibilities include performing equipment preventative maintenance and maintaining lab cleanliness.
Responsibilities
Perform laboratory tests on various products using equipment for which you are trained and certified.
Read and understand instructions, procedures, routing sheets, and other required documentation.
Follow instructions and procedures to ensure the quality of work.
Process paperwork and ensure routing sheets are complete and accurate while maintaining product integrity.
Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and other devices to verify product specifications.
Apply mathematical skills to perform calculations necessary for lab tests.
Articulate quality findings both verbally and in written reports.
Assist in the heat treat process of products.
Review each job inspected through the lab for verification.
Read all tests and reports to ensure they meet customer requirements.

Bachelor's degree in materials science or 5+ years of materials science work experience
Heat treat experience
Engineering and customer requirement blueprint reading
Microreading experience
Ability to test for cross-section, grain, flow of threads, head reading, and hardness
Aptitude for lab work and handling parts and machinery
Mathematical skills including basic math, algebra, and geometry
Basic reading skills of English for work orders, operating instructions, company policies, and safety rules
Experience in writing and detailing lab reports and reviewing for accuracy
Aerospace fastener experience is a plus
NDT experience is a plus
Work Environment
The work will be conducted in the engineering quality lab, reporting within a team comprised of NDT specialists, quality analysts, and lab technicians. The position requires working the first shift from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. The work environment is stable with no layoffs, offering a clean manufacturing floor and opportunities for advancement within a growing department.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lancaster, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
