GST is seeking a
Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry (LSA), residing within the NOAA/NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), utilizes altimeter data for the estimation of sea surface height, significant wave height and surface winds. Scientific Programmer develops code for innovative experimental data products from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Altimeter data. Developed software goes into the LSA's code repository, and Programmer helps the group transition the SAR experimental products to operations.
This position has been approved for a hybrid schedule with onsite office days in College Park, MD.
Primary Duties:
The Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry (LSA), residing within the NOAA/NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), utilizes altimeter data for the estimation of sea surface height, significant wave height and surface winds. Scientific Programmer develops code for innovative experimental data products from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Altimeter data. Developed software goes into the LSA's code repository, and Programmer helps the group transition the SAR experimental products to operations. The candidate must have prior experience in fully focused SAR code and algorithm refinement.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
BS/MS degree (PhD degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science and/or other Physical Sciences with a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience. Appropriate years of relevant experience can substitute for degree.
Proficiency with Linux/Unix OS; Excellent programming skills in C/C++ and shell scripting.
Other programming languages such as IDL, Fortran 2003/2008, Perl/Python is highly desirable.
Experience with Git or similar code revision control software.
Must have experience in fully focused SAR code and algorithm refinement and a broader knowledge of high-performance computing
Experience in high performance computing.
Experience working with large data arrays.

Salary at GST is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $120,000 to $122,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range or this position and is just one component of the GST total compensation package for employees.
