Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Systems Biology Laboratory Support to provide research support administration services for our government customer in Frederick, MD. In this role you will get to perform sample preparation, develop LC-MS methods, and maintain laboratory operations to support various research projects.
Regular hours of work with the possibility of Weekends or extra weekly hours if needed.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Perform sample preparation on various matrices, including inactivated cells, tissues, viral particles, and biofluids, using techniques such as purification, homogenization, dialysis, and enzymatic digestion.
- Develop and perform liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods for detecting and characterizing proteins, peptides, metabolites, and other small molecules.
- Perform SDS-PAGE experiments to separate and assess proteins, nucleic acids, and other biological macromolecules.
- Develop and perform data analysis workflows, including identification and quantification of peptide sequences, proteins, and small molecules, and statistical comparison of analyte abundance between samples.
- Maintain research methods, standard operating procedures, and data records, and keep a database inventory of all samples received.
- Participate in weekly lab meetings, assist in the development and design of current and future work, and prepare technical reports, SOPs, and manuscripts.
- Maintain an orderly laboratory environment, conduct equipment inventory management twice a year, and perform monthly laboratory management tasks, including safety functions and chemical/supplies inventory.
- Coordinate ordering of supplies, assist in training new personnel, and communicate experimental data and laboratory issues to the PI or assigned supervisor.
- Prepare and provide a Functional Capabilities Laboratory Support Progress Report monthly.
- Ensure laboratory compliance with regulatory guidance, participate in regular decontamination and cleaning, and manage waste disposal.
- Test emergency showers, eye washes, and drainage systems, and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
- Present work, attend meetings and training, and engage with partners to support biosurveillance and training missions, requiring CONUS or OCONUS travel approximately 1-2 times per year.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Biomedical/Biological Science or equivalent training and/or experience (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
- Experience with sample preparation techniques for various matrices, including inactivated cells, tissues, viral particles, and biofluids.
- Direct experience with purification, homogenization, dialysis, buffer exchanges, dilutions, concentrations, precipitations, extractions, washes, molecular labeling, and enzymatic digestion.
- Ability to develop and perform LC-MS methods for detecting and characterizing proteins, peptides, metabolites, and other small molecules.
- Experience performing SDS-PAGE experiments.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in equipment inventory management (GFEBS experience preferred).
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in laboratory management within BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments, including safety functions and chemical inventory.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI clearance.
