Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.00 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides innovative IT solutions that effectively address the agency's business and operational requirements. As a central facilitator, OIT plays a crucial role in implementing and ensuring compliance with both city and state, IT, and security policies and procedures. By doing so, it ensures the seamless integration of technology across the organization while maintaining adherence to regulatory guidelines and best practices. OIT is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Cyber Security Undergraduate Intern to join our Business Solutions Unit.

As a Cyber Security Undergraduate Intern, you will gain hands-on experience as a member of OIT’s Cyber Security Team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to work alongside professionals who implement and enforce compliance with NYC Cyber Command security requirements and Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications Citywide IT policies.

Key Responsibilities:

- Identify vulnerable assets (endpoints), reach out to users, track remediation progress, and assist in optimizing the process

- Assist with security awareness campaigns (phishing, password security, Multi-Factor Authentication, social engineering)

- Create engaging training content (emails, posters, videos, quizzes)

- Help track compliance and effectiveness of security training efforts

- Support the Cyber Security team in various projects and initiatives

- Conduct research and analysis on emerging cybersecurity issues and present key findings and recommendations

- Correlate activity across assets (endpoint, network, apps) and environments (on-premises, cloud) to identify patterns of anomalous activity

- Review alerts and data from sensors, and document formal, technical incident reports

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.


Preferred Skills

- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Networking, or a related field - Basic knowledge of networking and operating systems - Interest in vulnerability assessment, intrusion/threat detection, digital investigations, mobile device management, log analysis, identity and access management, monitoring, and/or endpoint security - Self-motivated, strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
