The Hot Section Engineering Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Acceleration Team is currently looking for a highly motivated Structures Engineer to join the team. The individual will have demonstrated expertise in structural analysis, non-linear static and dynamic analysis, and lifing/damage tolerance analysis including user material subroutine use and development.
The CMC Team Structures Engineers are responsible for developing/implementing the state-of-the art meshing, analysis, and post-processing strategies to enable broad design space exploration for the study of various CMC designs and architectures.
The Structures Engineers complete the technical assessments and analyses necessary to support design, development, validation, production implementation.
The Structures Engineer's ability to bound technical problems quickly, offer structural design options, and demonstrate design sensitivities through analysis will be integral to the success of the team.
What You Will Learn:
The CMC Team offers a unique opportunity to participate in a multi-disciplinary team in a lean, hyper-focused team environment. The role offers challenging and rewarding career development and broadening opportunities for an Engineer focused on a career in the development and implementation of emerging new technologies into future P&W products.
Structures Engineers get to have immediate input into the design of CMC components (e.g., vanes, blades, seals), starting with concept initiation/optimization, improving their own skills while also learning from other disciplines.
A core function of all Structures Engineers is to participate on an Integrated Product Team (IPT), collaborating with multiple disciplines to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost, and weight while advancing the state of CMC technology.
Specific tasks include:
Coordinate with Design, Structures, and Methods engineering management to establish operational plans for work area
Perform structural assessments, including creation of analytical models (components, assemblies, and sub-models) and contribution to evaluation of CMC component laminate architecture and interfacing hardware.
Develop and implement new products, processes / methods, standards and improve existing processes and practices driving positive impact to the success of the CMC Acceleration Team
Methods development, including User Material Sub-routine development and enhancement (e.g., Ansys, Abaqus)
Utilize AGILE and continuous improvement tools in everyday work to meet product requirements.

Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
10 years of experience in engineering or aerospace with a bachelor's degree, or 7 years with an advanced degree
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Qualifications We Prefer:
Bachelor's or an advanced degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering or related discipline.
Experience in engineering with an emphasis on turbine airfoils, structures, or composite analysis (PMCs or CMCs)
Recognized master within discipline, having deep knowledge of theory and organizational practices within a specific discipline to address complex problems.
Ability to obtain a security clearance
Finite Element Analysis Experience (e.g., ANSYS MAPDL, ANSYS Workbench. ANSYS ACP, NASTRAN, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, Hypermesh)
