ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Homebase Program is NYC premier homelessness prevention program. The community-based initiative assists households who are at-risk of shelter entry in order to resolve their housing crisis and lay the groundwork for self-sufficiency. The Senior Housing Specialist will be responsible for securing permanent housing throughout NYC for Homebase clients. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Conduct on-the-ground outreach to identify new housing resources
Develop and maintain linkages with brokers, landlords, real estate companies, and management offices that lead to housing placements
Facilitate appointments and accompany participants to apartment viewings
Conduct housing inspections and complete/collect pre-clearance forms for clients who have been approved for apartments;
Coordinate with Case Managers to complete and submit the required documentation for subsidy packages
Work with brokers/landlords to obtain required documentation for completion of subsidy packages
Assist clients with completing housing applications through NYC Housing Connect and other identified application portals
Work closely with Homebase Case Managers to expedite placements and make recommendations for successful moves
Assist Program Director and Assistant Director to ensure performance objectives, including number of households rehoused, are met
Work with all Homebase staff to ensure client housing needs are being addressed in a timely and thoughtful manner
Conduct workshops for clients on the housing search, application and interview process on an as needed basis
Conduct quarterly workshops for landlords/brokers on housing subsidies and any relevant Homebase procedures
Supervise assigned staff member(s) to assist with re-housing and subsidy packages; responsible for planning, assigning, evaluating, and reviewing assigned staff member(s) performance
Ensure that assigned staff are working on job functions, such as eligibility, inspections, and reexaminations
Help to resolve disputes and contract violations between landlords and clients
Work with other housing programs at RiseBoro and coordinate rehousing activities as deemed appropriate
Oversee landlord and management company compliance in meeting the established housing laws, building codes and lease agreements
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
COMPETENCIES
At least three years of professional experience in rehousing homeless families or in real estate.
Extremely flexible and willing to travel to meet with clients, brokers, real estate companies, landlords, and other community partners throughout the five boroughs
Entrepreneurial spirit, ability to problem solve, build relationships, and a sense of humor
Ability to work to tight deadlines
Ability to prioritize and successfully multitask
Ability to conceptualize challenges and communicate effective solutions
Ability to successfully manage multiple relationships
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or HSE required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
