Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Survey Manager (Civil Land/ Field Survey) to join our team! In this role you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, supervising, and exercising administrative authority over all field survey work for an assigned area of a large construction project.
Directs and coordinates internal field resources and subcontractor activities in accordance with project/client procedures, scope of work, and contract specifications, providing technical guidance to the survey crew as required.
Responsible for managing the survey land surfaces to determine precise location and measurement of lines, areas, contours, elevations, angles, and points for a variety of purposes (e.g., titles, land division, mapmaking, etc.). Ensures record survey data is accurately recorded, and may compile notes, records, and sketches as additional documentation. Serves as the primary point of contact with the client for all field project activities related to assigned area(s) of responsibility. Ensures continuity of job progress and maximizes efficiencies related to the assigned area. Willingness to relocate to construction site locations is expected.
In addition, the incumbent is also responsible for exercising technical expertise in the construction field surveys, applying knowledge within the civil survey discipline, as well as methods and techniques for integration of work elements specifically used for installation of Airfield Runways, Taxiways, Aprons, and other support facilities.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Plans and executes all aspects of assigned field survey projects including the development of scope of work (SOW) documents, budgets, schedules, and project implementation plans.
- Coordinates project requirements with the Project or Construction Manager and the client to ensure delivery of high-quality project deliverables.
- Collaborates with Project or Construction Manager to establish project schedule and budget to include the number of hours required for successful completion of project tasks; monitors progress to meet requirements.
- Anticipates project staffing needs and collaborates with the Construction Manager to identify and select personnel.
- Establishes objectives and conducts performance appraisals for direct reports.
- Develops project documents, processes, and procedures required to support quality control and final project deliverables.
- Establishes project specific safety plan and communicate it to field survey teams.
- Actively promotes and supports safety, security, and quality policies; monitors the job site for good practices.
- Collaborates with project procurement staff to acquire qualified vendors for supply support or onsite tasks.
- Reviews bid documents and assists with bidder solicitation activities.
- Plans materials requirements, identifies long lead items, and works with purchasing staff to coordinate supply support for field teams.
- Chairs regular job meetings with subcontractors and relevant project stakeholders; prepares and submits a project summary to client and Construction Manager.
- Liaises with other agencies (consultants/contractors) to coordinate the field survey work.
- Responds to issues and/or expectation concerns works with Construction Manager and client to identify and implement corrective actions.
- Assists with changes to the scope of work with the Construction Manager, client and subcontractors.
- Documents and executes changes in scope of project.
- Keeps client and Construction Manager informed of the daily field survey activities.
- Maintains accurate documentation of job progress through daily logs, sketches and other reports to support the field survey work.
- Ensures all the survey information is preserved (field books, sketches & calculations).
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor or higher degree in civil engineering, field surveying, or equivalent from a recognized university is required.
- 10+ years of overall construction and engineering experience directly related to field surveying on significant civil and utility infrastructure construction projects is required.
- 3+ years in leadership role at a field site, with preference given for airport experience (landside and airside).
- Requires a working knowledge of all surveying and construction-related processes, as well as current industry practices.
- Ability to apply plans and specifications to a project, adapt to field conditions and react objectively and expeditiously to critical field construction engineering problems.
- Ability to present issues to management in written or oral reports, offering recommendations or corrective actions to the best interests of the client.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, a familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with surveying, engineering and construction
- Ability to perform all necessary calculations in support of subcontractor data verification.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
- Understanding of survey practices in accordance with ICAO/ FAA construction standards and methods is preferred.
