DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under direct supervision assists all walk-in customers with information on permit applications, inspection requests, information on changes and ordinances, licensing and registration in a courteous manner. Answers all incoming calls to section, provides information on permits or inspections in a timely and courteous manner, or transfers to the appropriate party. Receives and records inspection requests when IVR is down. Ensures timely retrieval of waiting Q-Flow customers in English and/or Spanish. Updates ILMS (Integrated Land Management System) with inspection requests, results, inspector comments, permitting fees, licensing and registration fees. May balance daily revenue from sales of permits, receipts, or license fees. Maintains all files and section records such as insurance, registration, correspondence, and office updates. Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds. In the Houston Permitting Center, the position may require lifting of moderately heavy items, such as plans (up to 40 pounds).
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of customer service or general clerical/administrative experience are required.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
