Our client is Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). This is an on-site positionand an excellent opportunity for the right individual. The contractis expected to last approximately 3 monthswith a pay rate of $24.00/hr.
The NTID Deaf Health Care and Biomedical Science Hub (Deaf Hub) has positions for Summer Healthcare Academic Research Program (SHARP) Novice Interpreters.Positions are full-time (40 hrs/week) for 12 weeks, May 15th - August 7th.

This position is ideal for recent graduates who would like experience working in a research center where ASL is the primary language, with research in diverse areas such as health literacy, Deaf women's pregnancy outcomes, accessibility and technology, and supporting Deaf scientists. Novice interpreters will have opportunities for supervised interpreting, observations, professional skill development, networking, and mentorship. Novice interpreters will interpret and observe small and large group meetings, presentations, and other Deaf Hub activities. Novice interpreters are also expected to engage in some research activities, either with Deaf Hub projects (outside of their interpreting duties) or in supported independent study.
Duties
Interpret and/or observe meetings; add voiceover to pre-recorded videos in ASL
Participate in supervision and debriefing; attend PD and skill development sessions
Assist in coordinating interpreters and other access services for meetings
Assist with other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Must have graduated from an interpreter training programor started interpreting professionally in the last 5 years(2019-2024)
Must be able to submit link to your portfolio
Ability to work independently and multitask
Ability to interpret between American Sign Language and English
Organized, responsible, professional, and have good people skills
Hours/Days
Monday-Thursday, 9am-5pm
Limited hours on Fridays, evenings, and weekends if requested
