The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and Launch Services programs.
We are looking for a Group Manager: Arms & Umbilicals Design Engineering Group. We are a single-client performance unit (PU) supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering & Test (COMET) contract. The contract is to continue providing ground and launch operations support at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), including support for the International Space Station and the Artemis Program. The contract also includes services to other NASA programs, commercial ventures, and partnerships at KSC.
Provides technical leadership and management within COMET for the Arms & Umbilicals Design Engineering group.
Report to Fluids and Mechanical Design Engineering Senior Manager.
Responsible for:
Planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the allocated resources of Mechanical/Fluids Systems Design Engineering functions;
Manage the overall working units' area of responsibility;
Develop and implement plans; determine personnel requirements and assign;
Evaluate results, provide employee counseling and comply with EEO/AA programs;
Prepare resource estimates and comply with budget limitations;
Identify Design scope, track and report performance.
Must be able to:
Use program and project management experience to develop success-oriented schedule, delegate labor resources, in support design completion of critical GSE in support of manned flight for the SLS.
Create and adjust processes in support of design completion, fabrication, test and checkout of ground support equipment.
Possess interpersonal, communication and technical skill to guide the department, develop and maintain good. customer relationships.
Review and approve mechanical engineering design output.
Use engineering knowledge and experience to guide and mentor team of mechanical engineers.
Able to effectively communicate job expectations, rapidly adapt/respond to changes in tasks and responsibilities.
Mentor and inspire members of the team for success.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering and 10 (ten) years of management or technical leadership role.
Demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by prior managerial / supervisory and/or technical leadership
experience.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
Thorough knowledge of KSC/NASA standards and associated COMET processes is highly desirable.
Working knowledge of engineering tools such as but not limited to ProE, AutoCAD, Microstation, Windchill, Maximo, and Solumina is highly desired.
Excellent communication, presentation and customer interface skills required.
PMP or MBA desired
Familiarity with KSC design processes a plus
Prefer 10 years of experience with Ground Support Equipment (GSE) design, operations, and development.
Physical Requirements:
Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for troubleshooting.
Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment.
Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
Work Environment:
Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
Position may require daily travel to different areas on KSC property.
Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the center.
Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.
All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.

Computers and printers used for producing analyses, reports, and schedules.
Variety of equipment used in testing.
Attendance:
Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.
Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task.
Must be dependable and punctual.
Shift work may be required.

Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal correspondence.
