Position Overview:
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Activity Specialists for our After School Programs. As an Activity Specialist, you will play a crucial role in creating a positive and engaging environment for middle and elementary school students. You will design and lead activities that not only entertain but also educate, helping students develop skills across various disciplines.
We have multiple openings for specialists in the following areas:
Sports
Dance
Art
Academics
Leadership
Literacy
Music
Theater
Karate
Leadership Development
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math)
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership: Implement and enforce program policies, ensuring a safe and respectful environment in line with QCH's and partner organizations' standards.
Curriculum Development: Design age-appropriate lesson plans that are engaging and align with program goals.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with after-school staff on thematic projects and take guidance from senior program staff.
Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with program directors and other stakeholders, including families, teachers, and funders.
Student Support: Assist students with homework, promoting academic success and personal development.
Event Coordination: Help organize special events, activities, and projects that enrich the student experience.
Safety & Supervision: Ensure the safety of all participants, securing program spaces at the end of each session.
Professional Development: Attend staff meetings and complete required training and development hours.
Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors to support program success.
Qualifications:
Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
Education: Enrollment in a related college program (Education, Human Development, Sociology, Human Services) with at least two years of coursework completed.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in leading activities for youth, preferably in after-school or camp settings.
Specialization: Demonstrated expertise in the specific content area for which you are applying.
Skills: Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, and group management abilities, particularly with youth. Knowledge of skill development and gender-based programming is a plus.
Personal Qualities: Organized, self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and professional demeanor. Ability to inspire and engage youth in leadership and skill-building activities.
Technical Skills: Proficient in basic computer applications with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Clearance: Must pass NYS DOH Fingerprinting, NYS Clearance Review Background Check, three reference checks, and a physical exam with an updated TB test.
Status: Part-Time
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
